William Douglas Flowers, age 82, of 110 Cottage Court, and husband of the late Betty Jean Flowers, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at NHC of Laurens.

 

Born in Shellhorn, Alabama, he was a son of the late William Lester and Pliney Myrtle Little Flowers. A U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran, Mr. Flowers served on several ships including the U.S.S. Mount Baker and the U.S.S. Dewey. From a young age, William had a passion for Ham radios and he took that passion and served the U.S. Navy for twenty-five years proudly obtaining the rank of Chief. Navy ran deep in his veins and was a way of life. He was honored to have served his country. After his military career, he later retired as an engineer from Northrop Grumman.

 

He is survived by: children, Bill Flowers of Hickory Tavern, Beth Owens (Marty) of Laurens, Tim Flowers (Tina) of Laurens; step-children, Debbie Mehaffey (Dean) of Laurens and Shelia Bell of Toms River, NJ; brother, Titus Flowers (Betty) of Moss Point, MS; sisters, Katie Smith of Warrior, AL, Barbara Ann Hartin (Robert) of Wetumpka, AL, and Arlene Judy (Ray) of Pike Road, AL; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, August 6, 2020, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Gary Craft and Mr. Titus Flowers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mr. Flowers will have a burial at sea with Full Military Honors.

 

The family will be at the home of Beth Owens, 220 Wilson Drive, Laurens, SC 29360.

My Dearest Daddy, I just spoke to you ! I dont understand...Thank you for raising me, & being one of the sweetest human beings on earth! We had the Best times life had to offer.. I remember polishing your military shoes every night ! And ironing your Navy uniforms so you always looked ( spiffy) as you would said. Youd wrap your arms around me and say thank you young lady I love you We traveled the world together! It didnt matter to me where your next duty station was as long as we were together.. Africa, Italy, Sicily, SC , it never mattered.. Im happy you moved to SC to be with Beth,Bill, & Tim & Debbie... I would have been there too ...but being married my life took me to NJ ! I remember just you & I would go out to dinner alone.in Italy. yep just you & me.. we had so much fun... riding the Vespa in Italy Id hang onto you for dear life.. because you flew like the wind ... you never minded how tight I hung onto you ... I remember you teaching me the international communications code.. Id mess up on purpose,& wed laugh I hung onto every word you spoke my whole life!! You were my anchor in life!! Daddy Im scared.. what am I gonna do now without you to talk to almost every week? Thank you for loving me and being The Best Father a daughter could ever pray for!! Thank you for everything youve always given me... THE LOVE OF A FATHER FOR HIS DAUGHTER... it may have taken us awhile to find each other, but God made it so.. I am my Fathers daughter .. I had the pleasure of meeting Bill , quite often at breakfast at the clock. I can see him sitting there in his overalls and Navy cap.
He was a treasure, and I will miss his sweet smile.
