William Cortez "Corky" BurtonLaurensWilliam Cortez "Corky" Burton, age 88, of Laurens, and husband of Bonnie Lemmons Burton, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Clarence and Lonie Cooper Burton. Mr. Burton was a US Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict, retired from Laurens Glass, was an active member of New Prospect Baptist Church, and the Charles Tinman Sunday School Class. He was also a Mason and member of Palmetto Lodge #19 and was a Shriner. Along with his brother Julian and Gene Tollison, Corky founded a motorcycle club that is still active and continues to grow. Surviving in addition to his wife of 66 years are his daughter, Von Burton Prince and husband Billy; grandson, Lee Cunningham; brother, Joe Burton; sisters, Mary Wasson, Dolly Frady, and Lena Bass; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Mr. Burton was predeceased by his son, Ricky Burton, brother, Julian Burton, and sister, Doris Layman.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 24, 2016, at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Phil Hall and Rev. Tommy Lowe.The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the graveside service.
