John Hughes

John H. Hughes, 86, of 154 Shiloh Church Road, husband of Jessie Garrett Hughes, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at his home. Born in Union County, he was the son of the late John Gary and Annie Mae Greenway Hughes. He was a US Air Force Veteran of WWII and retired from the Highway Department with 30 years of service. Mr. Hughes was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, a Mason and member of the Schroder Lodge, and Shriner and member of the Hejaz Temple. Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, John H. Hughes Jr. and wife Irene of Princeton; a daughter in law, Kay McCroskey and husband Ray of Mountville; four sisters, Gary Mae Davis of Laurens, Ruby Nell Garrett of Greenville, Mildred Link of Clemson, and Joanne Boulware of Rock Hill; three grandchildren, Amy Hughes, Ronda Grubbs, and Brad Hughes and wife Vickie; and four great grandchildren, Zach Hance, Demi Hughes, August Hughes, and Brittany Grubbs. He was predeceased by a son, David G. Hughes and a granddaughter, Susan Hughes. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, January 22, 2010 at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Forest Mixon with burial in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Mrs. Jessie, I am so sorry to hear of Mr. John's passing, although I'm sure many welcomed him to heaven. I can imagine my grandmother asking him where you are. Mr John was always so gracious and kind to me, going out of his way many times. You will see him again one that. Praise God for that promise. I will be praying for you and your family.
