Jimmie Lawrence McPhersonLaurensJimmie Lawrence McPherson, 97, resident of Carolina Gardens in Laurens, husband of the late Virginia Murray McPherson, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016, at Laurens County Memorial Hospital.Born in Laurens, he was the son of the late William M. and Minnie Mayor Stribling McPherson. A member of Second Baptist Church, he was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Mr. McPherson worked for many years at Watts Mill and later retired from Torrington. He was a mason and member of Palmetto Lodge #19 and the Hejaz Shrine. His greatest joy in life was music. Mr. McPherson was an accomplished musician on fiddle, mandolin, and guitar; and especially enjoyed Old Time, Bluegrass, and Western Swing music. He is survived by his son, W. Leonard McPherson and wife Suzanne of Stanley, NC and his granddaughter, Amanda Atkins and husband Billy of Visalia, CA.The family will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary from 2:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 24, 2016.Graveside services with military honors will be held at 3:30 pm, Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Laurens City Cemetery conducted by Rev.
