Armstrong, Sr., passed away Friday, February 3, 2017.Born in Henderson County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Burgain H. and Lillie Hill Morrison. Mrs. Coates, known affectionately to her family as "Sweetie Pie," graduated from Laurens High School and was retired from G.E. A member of Beaverdam Baptist Church, she was also a faithful supporter of The Bar None Cowboy Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her sons, Eddie Armstrong and wife Betty of Gilbert, Gerry Armstrong of Columbia, and Tony Armstrong and wife Edna of Montgomery, TX; step-children, Gerri McCuen of Pelzer, Jim Coates of Lyndeboro, NH, and Floyd Coates of Waterloo; sisters, Eleanor Lawson of Whitmire, Ann McDowell of Laurens, and Millie Gwinn of Laurens; grandchildren, Breck Armstrong, Sheri Paxton, Ashley Snyder, Susie Tracy, Carli Metcalf, and Colton Armstrong; and ten great grandchildren.In addition to her first husband and parents, she was predeceased by: a brother, Daniel Morrison and sisters Pauline Strickland and Evelyn Wilson; and a granddaughter, Evie Word.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Monday, February 6, 2017, at Beaverdam Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Phil Bryson with burial in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.The family will be at the home of her sister, Ann McDowell, 112 Arrowood Drive, Laurens, SC 29360, and will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary, on Sunday, February 5, 2017, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaverdam Baptist Church, 1555 Beaverdam Church Rd, Mountville, SC 29370, or to a charity of one's choice.Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.thekennedymortuary.com. Prayers for family and friends of Miss Helen. She will be missed. She and Mr JW were big fans of our southern gospel trio, Morning Star. Always there smiling and encouraging us They loved gospel music and the Lord! Prayers for Mr JW. We shall never forget her and will forever be thankful for our friendship and memories. Heaven is a little brighter now! Jesus welcomed one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. Her smile would light up my heart ! Her hugs gave me assurance of God's love ! Her words of encouragement remain in my mind! Thank you Lord for her life and her mark she left on my life. I pray peace and comfort for her family and friends. She will be missed. I pray for healing for Mr J W. And for God to fill his life with peace and understanding. Precious memories of Miss Helen and Mr J W. Remain in my heart forever.
