Frances Lake Edwards OutzLaurensFrances Lake Edwards Outz, age 97, of Laurens passed away on January 12, 2017, at her home. Born on May 29, 1919, in Union, SC, she was the eldest of three children born to the late Mattie Lake and Joseph Eugene Edwards, Sr. Mrs. Outz was a 1940 graduate of Winthrop College and was employed as a public school teacher for 36 years. She taught in the counties of Oconee, Union, and Laurens. Her first teaching job was in Oconee County and that is where she met the love of her life, the late Marett Larkin Outz, whom she married on December 7, 1941.Mrs. Outz was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a part of the Helen Shelley Sunday School class. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa
, a sorority for teachers for many years and a long time member of the Ann Pamela Cunningham Garden Club.Leaving to mourn her passing are three children, Jane Askew of LaGrange, GA, John Outz and Laura Dennie (Duane) both of Laurens; four grandchildren, Joy Roberson and Nancy Knotts (Tony) both of LaGrange, GA, Julie Carrion (Willie) of Lexington, SC, and Elizabeth Franklin (Kevin) of Laurens. A beloved grandson, Joseph Dennie, preceded her in death. Mrs. Outz is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Martie Edwards Buerkle of Venice, FL, a sister-in-law, Frances F. Edwards of Union, SC, a brother-in-law, Carl H. Outz of Pittsboro, NC, and a sister-in-law, Junie O. Nesmith of Manchester, GA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Joseph Eugene Edwards, Jr. The family owes a debt of gratitude to her caregivers, Mae Anderson, Josie Sanders, Beverly Hall, and Anita Hall.A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, January 16, 2017, at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Rickey Letson, Dr. Bev T. Kennedy, Jr., Rev. Phil Hall, and Rev. Adair Rogers. A burial will follow the service at Westview Memorial Park followed by visitation.
