Evelyn Taylor

Evelyn Louise TaylorLaurensEvelyn Louise Taylor of Laurens, was born on December 10, 1924 and entered heaven on November 7, 2016. Everyday of her almost 92 years she thought about and missed her parents, Lewis Hayne and Avie Templeton Taylor. She credited them for making her the loving, faith-filled, generous person she was to everyone she met. She was predeceased by her brother Hayne Taylor Jr. and is survived by her dear sister, Sadie Taylor Collins, with whom she shared a very special bond for almost 90 years. Though she never married and never had any children she loved her sister's children and grandchildren as if they were her very own: Cathy Briner; Til and Glenn Culbertson and their children Courtney Taylor Mims, with husband Jesse and children Alden and Henley and Ryland Glenn Culbertson with fiance Katy Moore; Robert Fred Collins with daughter Wendy; Hayne Taylor with wife, Dawn and children Chad Pardue with wife Tracy and daughter, Lillian Pearl Pardue; Avie Gainey with husband Kevin; and Sarah Collins. As the oldest living member of the descendants of Samuel Hood Templeton she is survived by many who loved her. The family would also like to express their love and appreciation to cousin Denise Matthews who lovingly helped care for Evy in the last months of her life. She brought a smile to her face and helped the family more than she could know. Also, to Mary Johnson, thank you for helping us to care for Evy, her home and us.Evelyn attended the South Carolina School for the deaf and graduated from Gallaudet University for the Deaf in Washington, D.C. She earned her Master's Degree at the University of Tennessee. She taught school at the Tennessee School for the Deaf for 37 years and dearly loved the hundreds of deaf children she taught. She was a lifelong member of Todd Memorial Presbyterian Church, a member of the South Carolina Association for the Deaf, and Gallaudet and SCSDB alumni groups. She lovingly supported Laurens Academy in its formation and growth.Found in her Bible Evelyn had written this verse out from Romans 12: "Love each other in a way that you feel close to each other like brothers and sisters. You should want to give your brothers and sisters more honor than you want for yourself." We ask that you read the entire passage which epitomizes her long life as she took these words to heart and lived them out every day. She also wrote "Jesus, because of his ultimate love and kindness, dying on the cross, we are free from death." In this, we are comforted to know she is with her sweet Lord now, hearing for the first time, walking again and in the arms once again of her mother and father. We will miss her sweet smile, her "I love You" sign for everyone she met and the love that she unconditionally shared with her family. Until we meet again... Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, November 10, 2016, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow in the Laurens City Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Sadie Collins, 231 Lee Street in Laurens, and will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary one hour prior to the service.Condolences can be expressed to the family at www.thekennedymortuary.com. So sorry to hear about Evelyn. I think of her often and always enjoyed seeing her while shopping. I have very fond memories of her visiting at Central United Methodist Church with Mary Smith and the other ladies in the Deaf Ministry. I will be praying for the family during this sad time. But just think of the great reunion she is having in heaven with all her friends.

I want to express my condolences for your dear loss. In such a time as this may you receive needed support from family and friends. I hope the following Bible passages will be of comfort and hope too as they have for me: Psalms 34:18,19, Jeremiah 29:11,12 and Rev. 21:3,4.
