Dorothy "Dot" Sparks

Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Craig Sparks of Laurens (formerly of Greer) passed away at the age of 86, on November 10, 2017 at Hospice of Laurens County in Clinton, SC. Born in Laurens, SC on April 2, 1931, she was the daughter of John Benjamin Craig and Clara Owens Craig. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church of Laurens and when her health allowed attended Lee Road Baptist Church of Taylors.Dot is survived by her husband of 38 years, Jerry Dane Sparks, two daughters, Janice V. Holland (Scott) of Laurens, Sylvia V. Hicks of Clinton, two stepsons, Jason Sparks (Allison) of Charlotte, NC, John Sparks (Ashley) of Santa Ana, California and a sister, Ruby Craig Armstrong of Columbia. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Austin Taylor (Derek) of Greenville, Trent Holland (Ericka) of Mount Pleasant, Mandy Carson (Cory) of Greenville, Meredith Sparks (Jeremy) of Clinton and seven great grandchildren, Hayden Taylor, Sadie Taylor, Collin Carson, Cayson Carson, Marci Carson, Lizzy Sparks, Ben Sparks and many special nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sparks was predeceased by three brothers, Bill Craig, Charles Craig, infant J B Craig, and great granddaughter, Holland Grace Taylor.Mrs. Sparks was a homemaker and worked for many years as an administrative assistant in doctors' offices in Laurens and Greenville. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Her greatest pleasures were spending time with her family and friends (especially during the holidays), dining out and watching her favorite television shows. She was a Christian and loved her Lord. She will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all her family and friends who loved her dearly.The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, assistants and all the staff at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community, Laurens Memorial Hospital and Hospice of Laurens County for their compassionate care for Dot as well as for her family.A private family burial will be held on Monday, November 13, at 2:00 PM at Westview Memorial Park, Laurens. A memorial service conducted by Reverend Doctor H. Lawton Neely and Reverend Jeremy Sparks will be held on Monday, November 13, at 3:00 PM at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community Chapel, 1 Martha Franks Drive, Laurens, SC.
