David Childress

Joseph David ChildressLaurensJoseph David Childress, age 84, of 1306 Highway 49, went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Ann S. Childress. Born in Laurens, he was a son of the late Joseph David and Nivy Graydon Childress. He attended Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church and was a member of the Sonshine Sunday School class. He was a loving husband, daddy and Pop. He served as a Corporal in the US Army and operated Childress Poultry Company and Childress Cash and Carry with his brothers for twenty-eight years. He was a South Carolina Meat and Poultry Inspector for ten years. He operated Sandy Acres Farm with sons, Monty and Scott. He loved farming, gardening and sharing vegetables with neighbors and church family. Taking care of family and helping others was his passion. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jeri Manley (Randy), Monty Childress (Tina), and Scott Childress. Grandchildren Brooke Benjamin (John-Walter), Heather Gaillard (Adam), Ben, Amber and Cole Childress, Leslie Werts (Jeff) and Dawn Manley (Mac Tyre). Great grandchildren Audre Gaillard, Kylie Gaillard, Autumn Werts. Little buddies, Aiden and Alex Graddick. Sister Louise Kelly (Ralph), Brothers Thomas Childress (Jean), Curtis Childress (Carolyn), Wilton Childress and Sister-in-Law Anna Faye Childress, Brother-in-Law W.D. Seay. He was predeceased by Brother Kenneth Childress and Sister-in-Laws Amelia Childress and Martha Seay.Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 2, 2017, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Laurens, SC, conducted by Rev. Alex Henderson and Rev. Tony Crouch.The family will be at the home, 1306 Highway 49, Laurens and will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.In lieu of flowers memorials maybe made to Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, 499 Chestnut Ridge Road, Laurens, SC 29360 or Hospice of Laurens County, P.O.
