Claude Shipman

Claude Robert Shipman, 92, of 889 Fleming Mill Road and husband of the late Audrey Smith Shipman, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018, at his home.Born in Woodruff, SC he was a son of the late Boney and Minnie Grumbles Shipman. A U.S. Army Veteran of WW II, Mr. Shipman retired from J.P. Stevens after forty-three years of service. He was a lifetime member of Lucas Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Treasurer and Superintendent for many years. He was also a member of Rossie Walker Masonic Lodge #354.He is survived by: a daughter, Dorothy "Dottie" Lida (Robert) of Laurens; daughter-in-law, Susan Shipman of Laurens; sister, Shelba Jean Shipman Alexander of Laurens; sister-in-law, Loretta Shipman of Laurens; grandchildren, Robert Wayne Shipman, Jr., Pamela Doss (Don), Sherry Wardell (Barry), and Regina Gaines; great grandchildren, Jason Shipman, Katherine Crudge (Will), Tiffany Eanes (Chris), Barry Wardell, Jr. (Cortney), Meagan Watson, Claudia Watson, and Jackson Gaines; ten great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Robert Wayne Shipman, Sr.; grandson, Claude Thomas "Tommy" Coln; sister, Margaret Shipman Honeycutt; and brothers, Dewitt, J.B., Terrell, and Franklin Shipman.Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Lucas Avenue Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Michael Post with burial in Forest Lawn East Cemetery with Masonic Rites and Military Honors.The family will be at their respective homes and will also receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.Memorials may be made to Lucas Avenue Baptist Church, 101 Lucas Avenue, Laurens, SC 29360 or to Hospice of Laurens County, P.O.
