Christopher "Chris" D. CaldwellLaurens, SCChris Caldwell, age 59, of Montrose, Colorado and previously of Laurens, S.C. went mountain climbing on June 17, 2017, in the San Juan Mountains of Ouray, Colorado. The Lord took him home from 13,000+ feet on Mt. Gapin while he gazed at his most loved sight; the majesty of the Rocky Mountains. Chris was found by the Ouray Search and Rescue Team on June 19, 2017. Chris was a well-known mountain climber, having participated in the conquering of "United Way" of Looking Glass Rock, N.C. He had climbed the Grand Tetons, Denali in Alaska, as well as mountains in West Virginia and Canada. Chris was also an avid cyclist.Chris graduated from Ware Shoals High School and was a member of Union Baptist Church of Laurens, S.C. He is survived by his parents, Raye G. Caldwell of Clinton, and H. Gilbert Caldwell of Laurens. He is survived by his sister, Sherry Caldwell of Cross Hill and special friend, Eileene Coleman. Also surviving is his fiancé, Carol Cesare of N.C. He is also survived by his beloved Aunts: Mildred Pressley, Alice Godfrey, and Alveta "Becky" McGeehon (all of Hickory Tavern) and Vondie Caldwell of W.V. Also surviving are numerous cousins.Funeral Services will be held at The Kennedy Mortuary in Laurens, S.C. on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 2 p.m. with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, S.C.
