Bette Delores Buckner Smith HoodLaurensBette Delores Buckner Smith Hood, age 90, of 1 Martha Franks Drive, and widow of Farris Odell Smith and Rev. Charles E. Hood, Jr., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 13, 2017.Born in Midland City, AL, she was a daughter of the late Lyman Thomas and Varna Hamric Buckner. A dedicated homemaker for most of her life, she later was employed by Waccamaw Ford Tractor in Conway and also served in the Waccamaw Baptist Association. A member of First Baptist in Laurens, she was a resident of Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community. Bette was an Adult Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years and also served as Home Bible Study and W.M.U. leader and as a Laurens Baptist Association Multi-housing volunteer. Bette was a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who cared for lonely, needy people wherever she lived and shared her faith with joy at every opportunity.She is survived by: her children, Daniel Jerome Smith and fiancée Noel of Gastonia, NC and Joyce Smith Gore and husband Randy of Fort Mill, SC; sister, Barbara B. Ward and husband Darence of Laurens; grandchildren, Jenny Gore Bruton and husband Chris, Ashley Gore, and Kimberly Lenore Long and husband Steve; and a great grandchild, August Hugh Long.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, June 16, 2017, at Hillcrest Mausoleum in Conway, SC. A memorial service will be held at Martha Franks Rasor Chapel at 2:00 pm Monday, June 19, 2017, conducted by Dr. Lawton Neely, Rev. Rickey Letson and Dr. Bev Kennedy.The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends in the Cooper Dining Hall at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community on Monday immediately following the memorial service.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice, 429 N.
